The Board of Licking County Commissioners approves the annual budget and authorizes spending. It’s important that the county funds are managed responsibly and in compliance with state regulations. It is also important that the Board consider how the budget and spending will impact all Licking County residents.

PEOPLE -- taxpayers!, should be our priority.

PRIORITIZE TAXPAYERS

It’s important that every family in Licking County gets a fair shot - no matter their zip code or paycheck. Services such as Licking County Job and Family Services, Mental Health Services, the Licking County Aging Partners, and the Health Department all work to keep Licking County residents financially, mentally, and physically healthy.

WORK TOGETHER

Working together with other leaders towards the same goal develops mutual respect. I believe if we all remember to put people over politics, we can work together to rebuild opportunities in Licking County. Partnering with existing agencies can make processes more efficient – saving the taxpayer time and getting help to those who need it sooner.

PLAN

Licking County announced the first countywide comprehensive plan in more than 25 years in March 2026. It will “provide a coordinated, data- driven framework to manage growth, leverage community assets such as farmland and natural areas, align infrastructure investment, and guide long-term fiscal and economic sustainability.” I believe an important part of that plan is to evaluate new projects with a focus on any long-term benefits or drawbacks to the community.

BUILD STRONGER COMMUNITIES

Strong communities begin with reliable infrastructure – roads, bridges, water, and sewer systems. All of these are in need constant maintenance and repair. They’re vital to safety and public health. An emphasis on all of these should be at the heart of all new projects.

We keep communities safe by investing in agencies that help our neighbors in need as well as by investing in public safety. Licking County is an amazing place to call home because previous generations invested in public safety, public health, public libraries, and public parks.

Licking County is growing.  Our leaders must follow the data and use best practices to position our community for the future.  These growing pains include data centers, affordable housing, and cost of living.  As more data centers are proposed in Licking County, the data center corporations should be required to explain in detail how our communities will be protected throughout the life of the data center.  Agreements between these corporations and our local governments should detail specific penalties they will incur if the data center corporation breaches the contract.  Data centers can impact property values and quality of life when communities are left with pollution, noise, strained infrastructure, and fewer local resources.
